Is Stirling Castle worth visiting?
Yes! Stirling Castle is amazing place to visit. The earliest record of Stirling castle is 1110 AD. The castle soars 250 feet high, which overlooks vast areas of land and provides itself a strong defensive position. During the 13th and 14th centuries, the English and Scottish fought many battles, which shifted the control of the castle several times between the English and the Scottish.
Remember the movie Braveheart? From a historical point of view, it has some inaccuracies, but one of the key battles depicted is that of William Wallace and his men at the Battle of Stirling Bridge. From Stirling Castle, you can see the battleground where the Scots used the river to their advantage to route the English forces, ultimately defeating them on 11 September 1297. Guided tours are also available in Stirling Castle, which we highly recommend.
Fun Fact: The chapel at Stirling Castle was built to match the proportions of the Old Testament Temple that King Solomon built.
After you complete your visit to Stirling Castle, you can enjoy nice walks up and down the cobbled streets. Both Stirling Train Station and Stirling Bus Station are about 0.6 mile (900m), so it’s not far to walk from these stations. However, be aware that you’ll be walking uphill, which is not great if you’re carrying your suitcase.
